India has blamed Pakistan for violating a newly signed ceasefire, a few hours after the two countries pledged to end cross-border hostilities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the Indian Army has retaliated against the unprovoked firing by Pakistan.
“We would like Pakistan to fall in line,” read the official MEA statement, after the ceasefire violation on Saturday.

Ceasefire Agreement Reached, Then Broken
Earlier tonight, the top Indian and Pakistani military officials—the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs)—had resolved to end the military exchanges along the border after several days of heightened clashes.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “An agreement was reached today evening between the DGMOs of Pakistan and India to end the military action that had been happening over the past few days. Over the past few hours, this agreement is being breached by Pakistan.”
India Reacts to Border Incursion
According to Misri, Indian forces are taking active measures against the border incursions. He emphasized that India will not accept such violations of sovereignty and will keep on acting in self-defence.
“The Indian Army is retaliating and taking action against this border incursion. This incursion is highly condemnable and Pakistan is behind it,” Misri further said.
India Blames Pakistan for Destabilising Situation
Deploring Pakistan‘s moves as “extremely condemnable,” Misri blamed Islamabad for upsetting the hard-won peace agreement.
“We believe that Pakistan ought to realize the situation correctly and take the required steps immediately in order to bring an end to this intrusion,” he stressed.
Tensions Ramp Up Despite Diplomatic Efforts
The current ceasefire violation exemplifies the brittle nature of diplomatic talks between the two countries. Even after renewed talks and promises, the mood on the Line of Control is still tense and uncertain.
India’s resolute position implies it will persist in retaliating with force and diplomatically keeping Pakistan on the hook for any subsequent escalation.
