Delhi-NCR was struck by a bout of heavy rain and gusty winds towards the end of Saturday night, providing much relief from the hot summer weather. The rain came hours after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi, anticipating severe thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and gusty winds of up to 100 km/h.
The quick shift in weather disturbed daily life in parts of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad.

Heavy Downpour Waters Roads and Colonies in Delhi
Dust-storm was followed by heavy downpour, which led to waterlogging in most localities. In Noida, rainwater filled streets and residential colonies very soon, and daily commute became a challenge. Though it was night, and therefore traffic jams were minimal, people found it hard to commute or drive back home.
Public Advised to Remain Alert
The IMD had previously alerted people to the fury of the storm and asked them to remain indoors. The abrupt climatic change following a scorching hot Saturday was a reminder of how rapidly summer weather can change in northern India.
Despite the relief that the rain had brought, authorities remain vigilant. Emergency response teams are on standby to deal with any consequences of the storm, particularly with additional rains predicted in the days ahead.
