In a major turn of events, a Delhi court on Monday filed the police closure report suggesting the cancellation of the sexual harassment case lodged by a minor wrestler against the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The move is the official culmination of one of the most sensational and high-profile allegations that wounded the heart of India’s wrestling community.
Additional Sessions Judge Gomti Manocha accepted the closure after the complainant, a central figure in the countrywide protests, appeared in court on May 26. Interestingly, during an in-chamber hearing last year, the complainant had already told the previous judge that she was satisfied with the probe and did not oppose the closure. 4.1-mini

Fabricated Complaint Led to Closure
On June 15, 2023, the Delhi Police submitted the closure report invoking the father’s confession that the complaint had been false. He confessed that the accusation was made to take revenge on personal grounds for what he felt was injustice meted out to his daughter. According to the report, there was “no corroborative evidence” to support the charge and therefore suggested that the POCSO case should be withdrawn.
This turn of events not only exonerates Singh in the particular case in question against a minor but also brings into question more substantive questions regarding abuse of sensitive legal provisions and long-term consequences of baseless allegations.
Separate Allegations Still Underway on Brij Bhushan
Even with the closure of this case, Brij Bhushan Singh is still caught up in serious legal complications. He continues to face sexual harassment allegations in another case brought by six other female wrestlers. These allegations are ongoing and may have serious repercussions.
As the legal chapters unfold, the wrestling fraternity — and society at large — will closely watch. Although the closure is a relief for one side, the pending cases indicate that Singh’s legal battle is far from over.
