In a major escalation following India’s cross-border strikes on terror bases, the Indian Air Force shot down a Pakistani fighter jet attempting to breach Indian airspace near Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning amid heightened military alertness.
Intrusion Foiled in High-Security Zone
Security forces identified the aircraft as it entered Indian airspace and swiftly responded. The jet was shot down before it could execute any hostile action. Eyewitnesses from Pampore reported hearing loud booms, followed by visuals of the downed aircraft trailing smoke before crashing.
Comes Amid Rising Indo-Pak Tensions
This confrontation follows India’s launch of missile strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indian strikes were a response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 people.
Pakistan Confirms Missile Strikes
According to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Indian missile strikes hit three locations inside Pakistan — Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and Bahawalpur’s Ahmed East area. Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, DG ISPR, confirmed that the attack led to the death of one child, and seriously injured a man and a woman.

Following the incident, authorities have intensified security across northern sectors, including air defense readiness. Civilian flights continue to face disruptions, and cross-border communications remain tense.
