Attack Reportedly Leaves Eight Dead at High School Shooting

The Austrian police confirmed a major operation was in progress after shots were heard around 10 a.m. Local media outlet Kronen Zeitung initially reported five people dead, but later claimed eight fatalities. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the final number of victims.

The building is still under investigation, and the police are still in there, sweeping and securing the premises. Emergency responders continue to put in efforts to ensure safety.

Shooter Believed to Have Died by Suicide

Reports say that the shooter might have taken his own life. According to reports from Kronen Zeitung, the attacker “shot himself in a school toilet.” No motive has yet been identified, and police have not confirmed the identity of the suspect.

The BORG Dreierschützengasse is a secondary school in Graz, and officials have not released any information about the age or identity of the victims. Students ran for safety while teachers tried to help, but the chaos was extreme, and tensions within the school were palpable.

Authorities have asked the public to steer clear of the area while investigators search the school and gather evidence. The school is surrounded by worried parents and emergency ambulances to cater to any injured students or faculty. Such events are unheard of in Austria, with it being regarded as peaceful and civil.
