In a decisive security step, the Indian Air Force (IAF) took full command of Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Chandigarh at the crack of dawn on Wednesday. This move comes after all flights were cancelled because of the tense situation prevailing, which has not been officially disclosed but seems to be related to increased national security measures.

Flights Suspended Amid Heightened Alert

Ajay Kumar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chandigarh International Airport Ltd (CHIAL), confirmed the full takeover of operational control by the Air Force. “The Air Force has taken full control of the airport and all domestic and international flights remain suspended until further orders,” he said.

This is an unprecedented development as civil aviation operations come to a halt in the region, causing concern among passengers and airline operators alike.

Delhi on Edge After ‘Operation Sindoor’

Meanwhile, security preparations have been dramatically strengthened in the capital in the aftermath of ‘Operation Sindoor’. Delhi was already in a high-alert state, a top police official was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI. The operation has reinforced and tightened precautions further.

We have stationed additional security personnel in strategic areas. The Delhi Police are on high alert, and no individual will be able to violate law and order. Squads are maintaining strict observation on critical sites and monitoring social media websites,” the officer declared.

To provide for preparedness and ensure public order, several agencies are to have mock drills at 4 pm. The drill is intended to mimic emergency situations and test response mechanisms in effect, bolstering public confidence.

Coordinated National Security Response

This rapid and synchronized action by both military and civilian organizations indicates the seriousness of today’s threat perception. The IAF taking over an international airport and concurrent exercises in the capital indicate heightened levels of preparedness in security organizations.

While information about ‘Operation Sindoor‘ is yet classified, active measures by the government reflect a proactive approach towards any possible disturbance to national peace and stability.
