Tomato prices in Delhi have surged to ₹90 per kg due to reduced supplies caused by monsoon rains impacting several states across India. Major wholesale markets like Azadpur Mandi, Ghazipur Mandi, and Okhla Sabzi Mandi are also witnessing increased rates. Local residents are dismayed by the escalating costs, attributed to a decline in tomato shipments over the past week.

Reports indicate a decrease in the number of trucks transporting produce from states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh, due to disrupted transportation caused by heavy rains.

Over the last week, wholesale market prices for tomatoes have risen to ₹60-70 per kg, as crop damage from heavy rains and floods further exacerbates the supply shortage. Given tomatoes’ short shelf life, their availability has been severely impacted by the adverse weather conditions, contributing to the price hike.
