‘Tom and Jerry’ set as first foreign film to release in China post-Chinese New Year

Washington [US], February 22 (ANI): Warner Brothers’ live-action-animation hybrid film titled ‘Tom and Jerry’ is slated to release in China on February 26, which will make it the first foreign film to hit the big screens post-Chinese New Year.
As per Variety, the lunar new year public holiday, which this year ran from February 11 to 17, is typically the most lucrative movie-going week of the year, and thus one of the most competitive.
Authorities impose an unofficial blackout on imported films during the period as a protectionist measure to ensure strong sales for local content. Most years, the major Chinese New Year tentpoles hold sway over the box office for weeks after their holiday debut, meaning that other strong local titles tend to hold off on premiering until those sales have crested.
Seven big blockbusters debuted on February 12, the first day of the lunar new year, with Wanda Film’s ‘Detective Chinatown 3’ and Beijing Culture’s ‘Hi, Mom’ quickly emerging as the two frontrunners this year.
‘Tom and Jerry’ will go up against those films on Friday, which marks the Lantern Festival celebrated at the end of the Chinese New Year period.
Directed by Tim Story and written by Kevin Costello, the USD 50 million budgeted slapstick comedy reboots the classic frenemy cat and mouse pair first introduced in 1946.
It tells the story of what happens after mouse Jerry takes up residence at a posh New York hotel, where a new staffer played by Chloe Grace Moretz is tasked with getting rid of him before an important celebrity wedding and ends up employing the help of the cat Tom.
Michael Pena, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney, and Ken Jeong also star. The film was initially set to premiere in North American cinemas on March 5 but moved its date up to February 26 in late December. It will release simultaneously on HBO Max.
‘Tom and Jerry,’ film become the latest of the ‘Tom and Jerry’ projects with the first shots dating back to 1940. There are 164 animated shorts, several TV series, and many movies to the ‘Tom and Jerry’ name. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], March 1 (ANI): A ‘Jai- Veeru’ new ‘yaarana’ is in town! If the phrase ‘thick as thieves’ ever needed a desi endorsement, Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma’s characters from their upcoming horror-comedy flick ‘Roohi’ will serve as the perfect candidate!
The upcoming Indian Hindi-language comedy horror film sees the Rajkummar and Varun play Bhaura and Kattanni, two bumbling brosephs trapped in a forest with the mysterious Roohi, played by Janhvi Kapoor. Just when they think it couldn’t get any worse, a sinister spirit begins to creep over them.
Social media is already a fan of the Bhaura and Kattanni’s crackling chemistry, and their witty one liners have become an instant sensation.
Going by the buzz, it seems that the whacky jodi has gone into the skin of the characters. The characters look promising and it’s safe to say that the viewers are in for a visual treat.
Earlier, after raging the success of their intriguing trailer, the makers had dropped two songs titled ‘Panghat’ and ‘Kiston’ from the movie. Where, ‘Panghat’, is a peppy dance number from ‘Roohi’, ‘Kiston’ follows the developing love story between the lead pair Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor.
‘Roohi’ which was previously called ‘Rooh Afza’ and then ‘Roohi Afzana’, is a horror-comedy directed by Hardik Mehta. A Jio Studios Presentation, ‘Roohi’ is being produced by Dinesh Vijan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. It also stars Varun Sharma in the lead role.
The film marks the first-ever collaboration of Rajkummar and Janhvi. Rajkummar and Varun have earlier shared screen space in the 2015 release ‘Dolly Ki Doli’.
‘Roohi’, which is the first major Bollywood release post lockdown, was set to hit the cinemas in the first week of June last year, but the film had to be postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The upcoming horror-comedy will also become the first film to arrive in theatres after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting allowed cinema halls nationwide to operate at full capacity from February 1 with COVID-19 safety protocols put in place.
The film is set to hit the theatres on March 11, this year, and is based on the lines of the 2018 hit film ‘Stree’, which featured Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in lead roles. (ANI)

Washington [US], March 1 (ANI): Eight years after publicly coming out on stage at the Golden Globes, American actor Jodie Foster sealed her win this year with a kiss on the lips from her wife, Alexandra Hedison.
According to Page Six, the 58-year-old actor who was clad in a pyjama, as she cuddled up on the couch with Hedison and their dog while virtually accepting her honour said, “I love my wife — thank you, Alex!”
Foster – who in 2021 won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for ‘The Mauritanian’ – was for years private about her sexuality, only coming out during an acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 70th Golden Globe Awards in 2013.

“I guess I have a sudden urge to say something that I’ve never been able to air in public that I’m a little nervous about — but maybe not as nervous as my publicist. So I’m just going to put it out there, loud and proud, right? I’m going to need your support on this. I am, uh … I’m single,” she said at the time, per The Hollywood Reporter.
She continued, “I already did my coming out a thousand years ago, in the Stone Age. Those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to friends and family and co-workers then gradually to everyone that knew her, everyone she actually met. But now apparently I’m told that every celebrity is to honour the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance and a primetime reality show.”
At the time, she publicly thanked her former partner Cydney Bernard, with whom she has two sons, Charlie and Kit.
“There’s no way I could ever stand here without acknowledging one of the deepest loves of my life: my heroic co-parent, my ex-partner in love but righteous soul sister in life, my confessor, ski buddy, consigliere, most beloved BFF of 20 years, Cydney Bernard,” she said.
As reported by Page Six, Foster and Hedison tied the knot the following year. (ANI)

By

Washington [US], March 1 (ANI): After a phenomenal win at the 2021 Golden Globes for her performance in the Netflix series ‘The Crown’, Hollywood star Gillian Anderson weighed in on Prince Harry’s thoughts regarding the show that got her the prestigious accolade.
According to E! News, following the event, the 52-year-old actor, who nabbed the 2021 Golden Globe for ‘Best Supporting Actress, Series, Miniseries or TV Movie’ on Sunday (local time) spoke about Prince Harry’s recent acknowledgment during his ‘The Late Late Show’ visit last week, that the Netflix series from creator Peter Morgan is not purporting to be entirely fact-based.
Gillian replied, “I would say that, you know, Harry is fairly well-qualified to judge what is fact or fiction, and that it was pleasing to hear that he understood what Peter was trying to do on the grounds that he’s telling a nuanced story of the challenges of putting duty and service before love and family, and that he has certainly many, many, many years of experience with that.”
She added, “It was nice to be on the outside–and also on the inside–of a show that I care about, hearing, perhaps, that subject put to rest. One would hope.”
Gillian, who portrayed British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of ‘The Crown’, also said that she has not heard feedback from any other members of the royal family regarding the critically praised series.
As per E! News, during a segment of ‘The Late Late Show’, that aired on February 25, Prince Harry had told host James Corden about the royals-focused project that, “It’s fictional, but it’s loosely based on the truth. I am way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family or my wife or myself.” (ANI)
