TIPS TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE BLACK FRIDAY SALES THIS WEEKEND

BLACK FRIDAY

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you are aware of the massive sales happening online this weekend. Known as ‘Black Friday’, this weekend is dedicated entirely to economical spending before the Christmas shopping season officially begins. Black Friday, a relatively new concept, was introduced in countries abroad, to encourage consumers to begin their Christmas gift shopping early by scoring the best deals online. It begins the day after Thanksgiving, which is an American holiday traditionally celebrated on the third Thursday of November.

If you are a true shopaholic like I am, you probably mark your calendars for major sale dates, well in advance. Black Friday sales are the best time to invest in items you may need, as well as international services and content that may not fit into your regular Indian budgets. Many Indian businesses have also jumped on the Black Friday bandwagon in recent years, hoping to cash in on the universal shopping frenzy. The Indian sales may not be as widespread or as generously discounted as the international ones, but this period is the best time to save money while shopping.

The multiple brands and numerous call-to-actions constantly thrown in your face, can be quite overwhelming. Hence, here are a few tips for you to make the most of the Black Friday sales online:

1. MAKE A LIST OF EVERYTHING YOU NEED AND WANT

You may be tempted to buy everything you like, but that is highly impractical from a financial viewpoint. I recommend beginning your shopping spree with a rough list in hand. The items you need should be listed on top, and those you want should be at the bottom. You may end up buying a few things that are not on your list, but this process helps you narrow the field and makes your shopping experience more efficient.

2. COMPARE PRICES OF SIMILAR ITEMS BEFORE DECIDING

Do not be in a rush to buy the first item you see and like. There is no harm in browsing through similar items available in different brands or websites. Make a considered purchase after researching the best quality and best price available for the same or similar products in different online stores.

3. SIGN UP FOR NEWSLETTERS OR DOWNLOAD APPS

Identify your favourite online shopping websites and sign up for their weekly newsletters. Even if you despise newsletters and spam mail in your email inbox, let me assure you these newsletters will keep you ahead of the crowd and help you prepare for the best deals in advance. Usually people who sign up are the first to be notified about online sales and made privy to website and app-only discounts.

4. LEAVE THINGS IN YOUR SHOPPING CART

This may sound strange but putting things in your shopping cart and leaving them there, is a wonderful way to avail extra discounts. When websites notice that you have an item in your cart, and that item is not a hot-selling one for them, they offer even greater discounts for you to buy that particular item. Additionally, in case it is an item you wanted earlier but forgot about, you will remember to buy it at a discounted price during the sales when you see it in your cart.

5. CONVERT CASHBACK TO SHOPPING VOUCHERS

The concept of cashback may sound dodgy to those who have not tried it, but it works wonders. People who use cashback websites, or keep track of the cashback earned through their cards and other methods of online payment, are literally paid to shop! The cash you earn from this medium, can then be used to shop further. Some websites offer shopping vouchers instead of cashback, making it a complete win-win situation.

These are my tips to score the best deals during the Black Friday sales or any online sales in general. Being prepared beforehand is the best way to make the most of this time and save your money. However, do stick to buying things that you need and make sure not to go overboard with the spending!

Washington [US], March 1 (ANI): The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has meant more time at home for everyone with people becoming habitual of wearing their most comfortable set of clothes and flats. And celebrities are no different! Actor Carey Mulligan, who is dressing to impress this Golden Globes, recently revealed that she wore heels for the first time in 18 months.
While celebrating the Golden Globes, the actor was able to watch the show from the comfort of her hotel room. Before finding out if her movie ‘Promising Young Woman’ won big, Carey appeared on ‘Live From the Red Carpet’ and couldn’t contain her excitement, reported E! News.
“I’m in London in a hotel, which is a very welcome break from being at home,” she told E! News.
Spilling the beans about her getting all dressed up for the ceremony, she said, “This is my first virtual red carpet. This is the first time I’ve worn heels in a good 18 months I think.”
Carey is up for Best Actor in a Motion Picture–Drama, thanks to her performance in ‘Promising Young Woman’. And while she would be thrilled to take home a trophy, Carey also believes her director Emerald Fennel deserves lots of credit.
Carey recalled, “Oh, my goodness. When I heard that she was nominated, I almost cried. I just think it’s so richly deserved. I mean, it’s amazing to see the recognition of all the women in that category. It’s so right.”
And while this year’s award season looks incredibly different partly because of the coronavirus pandemic, Carey is still focusing on all the good that came out of the past 12 months including the power of community.
She explained, “In the worst of times, our communities have really come together and the people close to you and your neighbors, that really matters. I really saw that throughout the country and just people really coming together and looking after people who need it.”
The 78th Golden Globe Awards is taking place nearly two months later than normal, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cinema and television.
This is the first bi-coastal ceremony, with Tina Fey hosting from the Rainbow Room in New York City, and Amy Poehler hosting from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
The nominees for Golden Globes were announced on February 3 and Jane Fonda and Norman Lear were announced as the recipients of the Cecil B. DeMille Award and the Carol Burnett Award, respectively.
Netflix dominated the nominations with a total of 42 mentions, including a nomination for the leading film ‘Mank’ and a nomination for leading television show ‘The Crown’.
‘Mank’ and ‘The Crown’ have received a total of six nominations each. Canadian sitcom ‘Schitt’s Creek’ has been nominated in five Golden Globe categories, including best TV musical or comedy series. (ANI)

Washington [US], March 1 (ANI): Just because the Golden Globes are being held virtually this year doesn’t mean the stars won’t be getting glammed up! American actor Elle Fanning, who plays Princess Aurora in ‘Maleficent’, looked like a modern-day Cinderella at the 2021 Golden Globes.
The actor showed off her Gucci dress, designed by Alessandro Michele, on Instagram ahead of the award ceremony.
She posted a photo of herself looking regal as ever in the baby blue silk-dress. The star captioned the post, “Dressed up for a night in for the @goldenglobes Thank you to my beautiful hair and makeup team on the show @erinayanianmonroe and @glynnlorraine They transform me into Catherine every day on set and are a part of this special day!”

The team behind Hulu’s ‘The Great’ also helped to capture the picture-perfect moment, with Fanning in her caption sharing that she and photographer Gareth Gatrell “had such a fun time taking these photos” of her in the stunning dress and Fred Leighton jewelry.
And, as always, the actress gave Alessandro a shout-out, captioning the post, “I heart @gucci forever.”
As per E! News, Fanning is currently in London, where the cast is filming season two of ‘The Great’. She told E! News’ Giuliana Rancic that she is a bit of a night owl, but she is also “running on adrenaline” making the time difference a bit less difficult to manage.
She and co-star Nicholas Hoult are both up for Best Actor in a Comedy Series in their respective categories at this year’s Globes.

MAHARASHTRA MINISTER QUITS, BJP ALLEGES HE’S LINKED TO TIKTOK STAR’S SUICIDE CASE

The Bharatiya Janata Party had demanded Forest Minister Sanjay Rathod’s resignation, even as he denied anything to do with 23-year-old Pooja Chavan’s death.

Amid the demand for the ouster of Maharashtra Forest Minister Sanjay Rathod over his name being linked to the death of a 23-year-old woman, the Shiv Sena leader on Sunday tendered his resignation from the post.

“I’ve given my resignation to CM Uddhav Thackeray. The way opposition is warning that they won’t allow Assembly session to function, I’ve distanced myself from it. I want a fair probe in case (in connection with the death of a woman in Pune earlier this month),” Rathod told reporters.

Earlier, the Opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had demanded Rathod’s resignation, even as the minister has denied that he had anything to do with her death.

The 23-year-old woman had died after falling from a building on 8 February, and Pune Police had said that they were probing the suicide angle. Some audio clips had gone viral after her death. However, soon after, many audio tapes allegedly linked to TikTok star Pooja Chavan’s death, alluding to the involvement of the state minister, went viral on social media. In one such audio clip, one person is heard making some suggestions to suppress a case. The person also issued instructions in Marathi to take possession of laptops and mobiles phones and the ‘issue’ should not be escalated.

Responding to the Opposition’s demand of a case against the minister, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said an FIR (First Information Report) can’t be registered before investigation.

“Our job is to behave properly and just. But politics has been dirty for the past few days. Investigation has to happen, and we believe it should be fair. But during investigation, destroying someone should not be the aim,” he said at a press conference.

Further, some social media posts claimed that Pooja Chavan was in a relationship with the Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Rathod. In Rathod’s defence, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut earlier on Sunday said that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will not take any decision under pressure. “Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will not take any decision under pressure. To keep anyone in the cabinet or not is the CM’s prerogative,” Raut said.

The Rajya Sabha member also accused Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari of indulging in politics. The BJP has already announced that it would not let the budget session of the state legislature run smoothly if Rathod does not step down before March 1. The session is scheduled to start from Monday.

The BJP had been demanding his resignation from the post. “Minister with serious allegations in Pooja Chavan suicide case should resign! The BJP protested against this by burning a statue of Sanjay Rathore in Beed district,” BJP Maharashtra tweeted last week.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had also hit out at the state government over the death. “There is ample evidence against Sanjay Rathod but nothing is happening. If media reports had not come out, nothing would have happened. Are we heading towards a banana republic? The police are under pressure. First, there has to be an investigation on the police itself,” he said last week.

I ALWAYS SEE MY FILM AS A PASSION PROJECT: HARSHVARDHAN KAPOOR

Published

on

Harshvardhan Kapoor’s breakthrough performance in ‘AK Vs AK’ got a thumbs up from both the critics and the audience.Harshvardhan spoke exclusively with The Daily Guardian and shared his experience, praise he received for ‘AK VS AK’ and future projects.

Q. What was your first reaction to the love you received for ‘AK VS AK’?

It has been surprising, I did not expect it. It has been overwhelming and a big moment for me. Validation from the critics and audience is crucial for a young, upcoming actor.

Q. You have ‘Thar’ and ‘Spotlight’ coming up, can you give us a sneak peek of the characters?

Unfortunately, I can’t speak much about ‘Thar’ and ‘Spotlight’. ‘Spotlight’ is a comedy film with Radhika Madan and should be out in May or June. ‘Thar’ has me, my dad, Satish Kaushik, Fatima Sana Sheikh, and Mukti Mohan. It may release by the end of the year and I am eagerly waiting for the edit.

Q. One thing that intrigues you to be a part of a film and why?

It depends on how unique the director’s vision is, I want to do new things in a new environment. I always see it as a passion project and never think of it to attain stardom or further my career.

Q. Do you prefer films or web series?

I would love to do a series or a film depending on the script and concept. I have done a bunch of films for Netflix. ‘Spotlight’ is a Netflix film and I am looking forward to sharing it with you.
