Thrilling beginnings: North Zone Hockey Tournament kicks off

Despite heavy rain and hail, the Office of the Accountant General (Accounts and Entitlements) for Punjab and UT hosted the three-day North Zone Hockey Tournament of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department at the Hockey Stadium in Sector-42, Chandigarh. The tournament was inaugurated by Chief Guest Kamaljit Singh Ramuwalia, Principal Director of Audit (Central), Chandigarh. Teg Singh, the Accountant General, welcomed the officers and players present, emphasizing the promotion of hockey, our national game, and the team spirit it exemplifies. He then provided detailed information about the three-day sports program. Teams from AG Punjab, AG Haryana, AG Delhi, AG Jammu-Kashmir, AG UP, and AG Himachal Pradesh offices are participating in the tournament.

In the first match, AG UP defeated AG Himachal 6-1. Ehtesham Khan of AG UP scored the first goal in the 10th minute, followed by Imran Khan Jr. in the 12th minute and Imran Khan Senior in the 15th minute. Kawaljeet Singh of AG Himachal scored in the 20th minute, making it 3-1. Imran Khan Jr. secured a hat-trick with goals in the 24th and 40th minutes, and Jaigham Mashkar of AG UP scored in the 44th minute, sealing a 6-1 victory. The match was officiated by international umpires Harpreet Singh Gill and R Govindarajan.
In the afternoon, the second match between AG Punjab and AG Jammu Kashmir was a one-sided affair, with AG Punjab triumphing 9-0. Pawan Bassi of AG Punjab scored the first goal in the opening minute, and Ranveer Singh added two more in the second and fourth minutes. Key players Ravindra Singh and Parminder Singh each scored a hat-trick of goals. The match was officiated by international umpires Meenakshi Sundaram and Gaurav Mehta.

Tomorrow’s semi-final matches will feature AG UP against AG Delhi in the first match and AG Punjab against AG Haryana in the second semi-final.
