Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained three Rohingya women, including two minors, at Jammu Railway Station for illegally entering India. Authorities also apprehended an individual who had come to receive them. The Jammu Police are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
Officials from The Daily Guardian have reported that the three Rohingya women were captured upon their entry into Jammu from the Railway Station. The individuals identified are Sadiq Hussain and Safira Begum, with the two others being minors. It was revealed that the women entered India without valid documents. While Sadiq possessed a UN identification card and had been living in Jammu for five years, the presence of minors raises concerns about potential human trafficking.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police are actively probing the human trafficking angle, and the minors are currently being questioned by relevant officials. This incident follows a major crackdown on Rohingyas and their supporters in December last year when 18 Rohingyas were arrested in three districts of Jammu. These individuals had managed to obtain ‘Indian National’ identification cards illegally with the assistance of locals. The arrests included 13 individuals in Kishtwar, four in Poonch, and one in Rajouri. Additionally, the police seized Aadhar cards, bank passbooks, and revenue records that had been acquired illegally by the Rohingyas with the help of locals.
