When a beauty brand based in Pune welcomed a charming new addition to its team—a sweet little kitten—they celebrated with great enthusiasm, an event captured in a viral Instagram video.

Nari’yal Cosmetics organized a traditional Hindu ceremony known as ‘naamkaran’ to formally name the white and orange kitten. In the video, employees can be seen performing an aarti to welcome the kitten, applying tilak on its forehead, and showering it with marigold petals. The kitten was lovingly christened Cocaya during this ceremony.

Following the naamkaran, a cake cutting ceremony ensued where an employee helped the kitten ‘cut’ a chocolate cake. The furry newcomer was then showered with affection and treats.

Sharing the video on Instagram, Nari’yal Cosmetics revealed that Cocaya is a rescue kitten, found and nurtured by two of their employees before finding a home in their office.

Commenters on Instagram expressed their gratitude to the company for rescuing Cocaya and offered advice on caring for the kitten. “So adorable. Please do get him/her vaccinated after a few weeks and neutered after a few months,” one user advised. Another suggested, “Make sure to arrange litter boxes too.”

Office pets, as highlighted in a Hindustan Times report from 2015, are a growing trend in India and globally. Studies suggest that having pets like cats or dogs in the workplace can reduce stress. This trend, initially popularized in Silicon Valley, has expanded to non-tech companies across the US and beyond. Companies like Google, Facebook, and Procter & Gamble have embraced office pets, recognizing their positive impact on workplace morale and atmosphere.
