Cricket fans are always eager to know the IPL predictions and the expert opinion before the match starts. The auction has seen the team officials and the owners get into a bidding battle for the players they think are going to give their team the best results.

Here we are going to take a look at the top five most expensive players in the IPL history.

1. Chris Morris

The all-rounder from South Africa was the top-earning player in the 2021 IPL. After having spent a lot of time in Delhi Capitals, he was chosen by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021 for 10 Crores. But in the following year, he was picked by Rajasthan Royals at a price of 16.25 Crores. It is the highest amount spent on an overseas player in IPL history. But it was his multidimensional abilities to be great with the bat, as well as the ball that made him a coveted player.

The franchise always wished to make him a part of the team because of his proficiency with the bat and bowl. His statistics speak a lot about his abilities.

2. Virat Kohli

The former captain of India is considered to be a prodigy and is one of the best batters in the country. He has contributed to many winning matches and is thus known as ‘King Kohli’. In IPL, he is the highest run-scorer in 2016 with 973 runs and no other player has scored this many runs in a single IPL season. No doubt, he has been the backbone of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In the 2018 Mega Auction, he was retained by RCB for 17 Crores. It made him the highest-paid player in the IPL history. He has performed well for the team and is the all time highest run scorer in IPL with a total of 6411 runs till date.

3. KL Rahul

Punjab Super Kings and its management has never stuck with a player to groom him for the future. It again happened when its star player decided to leave the team. KL Rahul, the present Indian overseas vice-captain in limited games decided to come back to the auction and start afresh in a new team and that was the instant when Lucknow bought him for 17 Crores.

He shares his position as the highest-paid player in the IPL history along with Virat Kohli.  Rahul was the star player of Punjab Kings and has been a consistent performer. In every season he played for Punjab Kings, he has been among the top five scorers. He has a prolific record in the IPL.

4. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh is the man of the ICC tournaments for India. But his career in the IPL wasn’t very successful. Prior to retiring in the year 2019, he has been a part of many franchises, such as Pune Warriors, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals. The highest auction bid for Yuvi was 16 crore by Delhi Capitals in 2015.

However, he wasn’t very successful that year playing for Delhi Capitals. He had the most successful tournament with Sunrisers Hyderabad as he was able to win a trophy. But, eventually, in 2019, he retired from the game after playing only 4 matches with the Mumbai Indians.

5. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder is one of the highest-paid players of Chennai Super Kings. At present, he is the captain of the team. In the auction, he was the first player to have been retained by the franchise.

MS. Dhoni is known to have helped him progress in limited-overs cricket format as an all-rounder. Jadeja has given an outstanding performance in IPL 2021 where he scored 227 runs and had a strike rate of 145.51. This is what causes Chennai Super Kings to retain him for 16 crores in 2022.

In 2021, he scored 37 runs in one over against Harshal Patel. His finishing skills are highly talked about. Surely, a player of his skill and caliber might be difficult to replace.

Bottom Line

IPL 2022 has come to an end with Gujrat Titans emerging as the winner. This year the league had grown to 10 teams and held a Mega Auction where all teams were able to build their squad from scratch. Now, it is to be seen who will be the most expensive player in the next season.
