Inter Miami, a team struggling with performance, form, and luck has completely turned the tables after the club announced the signing of Lionel Messi on 15th July. Before Messi’s arrival, Inter Miami finished bottom of the table in MLS season 2022-23 with only five wins in 22 matches. The club was not able to win any trophy since its foundation in 2018 and just after Messi’s arrival, the whole scenario changed. The Argentine got the love, support, and respect of the fans which was missing during his stint with Paris Saint-Germain and he was announced the captain of Inter Miami just after he arrived in the club. To support Lionel Messi on the field, Miami announced two more signings of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba respectively. The story of these two alongside Messi goes way back to the golden generation of Barcelona when they were known for their on-field chemistry and coordination and now, they are securing the midfield and defense of Inter Miami. Lionel Messi made his debut for Inter Miami on 22nd July when he came as a substitute against Cruz Azul in the League’s Cup game, his debut in America was witnessed by prominent personalities like LeBron James, Serena Williams, and Kim Kardashian.
Inter Miami was drawing the match 1-1 when in the last minute of the match Lionel Messi scored a stunner from a direct free-kick to secure the win for Inter Miami. The win against Cruz Azul was the announcement of triumph for Inter Miami and after this, whatever happened was revolutionary in the club’s history. Inter Miami, a team which was struggling to secure even a single win without Messi was now starting to forget the feeling of defeat.
Lionel Messi led Inter Miami to victory in the League’s Cup marking the club’s first-ever championship stint. Messi scored 10 goals in 7 appearances and for his performance, he got the Best Player and Top Scorer award in the League’s Cup.
