A recent gunfight between terrorists and security forces in Kastigarh, Doda district, resulted in injuries to two soldiers on Thursday. This incident follows the tragic killing of an Indian Army captain and three soldiers earlier this week amidst a spate of terror attacks in the region.

According to a police officer who preferred anonymity, the gunfight erupted around 3:40 am during search operations prompted by heightened alerts and suspicious movements in Kastigarh. “Contact was made with terrorists who opened fire, injuring two soldiers initially,” the officer stated, adding that the injured soldiers were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities suspect that the terrorists involved in Thursday’s skirmish are linked to the group responsible for Monday’s deadly attack on an Army search party in the Desa forest area. The search for connections is ongoing, with recent arrests shedding light on support networks aiding terrorist activities in the region.

Showket Ali was apprehended for allegedly providing shelter and provisions to terrorists prior to the Desa forest attack. Investigations are underway to determine if the individuals harbored by Ali were directly involved in Monday’s violence or if other groups were responsible.

In response to the escalating violence, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified operations against suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in Doda. The recent arrests of Mubashir Hussain, Safder Ali, and Sajad Ahmed underscore ongoing efforts to dismantle local support networks facilitating terrorist activities.

The surge in terror incidents has raised concerns about security in the Jammu region, with Doda emerging as a focal point for recent attacks. This includes the fourth attack in Doda’s forests in three weeks and the twelfth incident in Jammu this year, resulting in casualties among security personnel and civilians alike.

Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal, a defense spokesperson, confirmed the deployment of additional troops and equipment to counter terrorist infiltration and activities across the Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, and Bhaderwah districts. Similar operations are ongoing in Kathua following a recent attack that claimed the lives of five soldiers.

Security forces remain vigilant amidst heightened tensions, focusing efforts on neutralizing threats posed by terrorists operating south of the Pir Panjal mountains. The region has witnessed increased terror activities, prompting strategic reinforcements and intelligence enhancements to safeguard local communities and maintain peace.

The incidents highlight ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining stability in Jammu and Kashmir amidst persistent threats from Pakistan-based militant groups. Efforts continue to bolster defenses and enhance operational capabilities in the face of evolving security dynamics.
