In a significant development, a terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Nowpora area of Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday. Unfortunately, a civilian was also injured during the gunfight between the terrorists and security personnel.
The joint operation was initiated by a team comprising police and Army officials after receiving credible information about the presence of terrorists in the Nowpora locality.
As the security team closed in on the suspected location, the hiding terrorists opened fire on them, resulting in an exchange of gunfire and a subsequent gunfight.
It is believed that a top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) along with his associate is trapped in the area where the encounter is underway. This encounter follows a similar incident from the previous day when an Army jawan sustained injuries in a gunfight with terrorists in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter in Bandipora occurred during a house-to-house search operation in Chintibandi village after security forces received intelligence about a possible terrorist hideout in the vicinity.
