A devastating landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in South Tripura has claimed ten lives. On Thursday, seven members of two families in Ashwini Tripura Para were confirmed dead. Earlier, on Wednesday, three members of another family in Devipur lost their lives due to a landslide.

In response to the tragedy, the Tripura state government has expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the bereaved families. The government has announced a financial aid of Rs 4 lakh to each affected family. They have also called on the public to cooperate and assured that the administration is committed to providing full support and assistance to those affected by the calamities.

The severe weather has impacted around 30,000 people across the state. To manage the situation, the government has established 321 relief camps. The heavy rainfall, which has reached 375 mm in some southern districts and 350 mm in other areas, has led to the closure of schools, colleges, and universities.

Tripura has been experiencing unprecedented rainfall due to a sudden depression in the Bay of Bengal, which has significantly affected the southern regions and other parts of the state. Chief Minister Manik Saha, speaking to ANI on Wednesday, highlighted the severity of the situation. He noted that this level of rainfall, with 375 mm recorded in the southern districts, is unprecedented in Tripura. The intense rainfall has caused landslides and caused river levels to rise above danger levels.

The Chief Minister assured that relief efforts are underway, with a relief team already deployed and additional assistance being arranged from other states to address the crisis. The government is working to manage the situation and provide necessary aid to those affected by the disaster.
