The Kotabommali Court has remanded the Andhra Pradesh state president of the Telugu Desam Party, Kinjarapu Atchannaidu, for 14 days. The police arrested Atchannaidu in Nimmada on Tuesday morning.

He was taken to the local government hospital for other medical tests, including for Covid-19, and later produced in the sessions court and has been remanded till February 15. Atchannaidu was shifted to the district jail at Ambolu near Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.

Tensions were high during the panchayat elections in Atchannaidu’s home village, Nimmada. Sarpanch candidate K. Appanna, who has been supported by the YSRCP, lodged a complaint with the Kotabommali police, alleging assault on his family members. The police registered a case against 22 people and arrested 12 people on Monday in connection with the incident. Atchannaidu was arrested on Tuesday.

In the past, TDP leader Atchannaidu was kept in jail for over 83 days in the ESI scam case. Now, he has been sent to prison once again on a 14-day remand.

Interestingly, Appanna, who filed the case, is a close relative of Atchannaidu.

Meanwhile, TDP national president Chandrababu Naidu has criticised Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy over the attacking of opposition leaders.
