Actress Taapsee Pannu, who was last seen in the critically-acclaimed Thappad, has gone de-glam for the sports drama Rashmi Rocket which is set in Kutch. This is the second village-based movie she is part of after Sand Ki Aankh.

Talking about the physical transformation Taapsee exclaims, “Just before the pandemic, I was already three months into my training to transform into a physique closest to a sprinter. This has been a long break but with this kind of subject, I am excited to restart the journey from scratch beginning with my training.”

The actress informs that this film is special as she has been involved in this project from the very inception. Priyanshu Painyuli of Extraction fame will be seen in a prominent role.

Set in the salt pans of Kutch, it’s a story about a village belle who is blessed with the gift of speed. She’s an incredibly fast runner and the villagers fondly call her “Rocket”. When Rashmi gets a chance to showcase her talent professionally, she excels but also realises that the race to the finish line is peppered with several hurdles and what seems like an athletic contest turns into a battle for respect, honour and even her very identity.

Taking to their social media, RSVP movies tweeted, “Getting back on track, one lap at a time! Rashmi Rocket to start shooting this November. The film will be helmed by Akarsh Khurana who last directed Karwaan.”

The director says, “We were all set to shoot when the pandemic struck. I’m glad that we would be resuming soon. The team and I have been waiting eagerly to set off on this journey.”

Producer Ronnie Screwvala says that the film will bring to the fore the trials and tribulations that several female athletes face in their journey and the unmatchable resolve shown by them to eventually shape their destiny. “There could be no better actor than Taapsee to essay the role of one such athlete Rashmi,” says Ronnie.

Amit Trivedi would compose the music of Rashmi Rocket, which will release in 2021.
