The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, has secured a spot in the Super Eight stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup after three consecutive wins. They are set to face Canada in their final group-stage match on June 15. This match will also mark the end of Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan’s participation in the World Cup as they will be released by the management afterward.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, both Gill and Avesh, who are in the squad as travelling reserves, traveled to Florida with the team on Wednesday on a chartered flight. This flight was arranged for both the Indian and USA teams after their group game at Nassau County International Stadium in New York.

The report indicates that Shubman Gill and Avesh were included in the squad for the US leg of the competition due to logistical challenges faced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in flying in replacement players to the US or the Caribbean in case of an emergency.

However, their stay with the team is expected to conclude after the match against Canada. The team already has a backup opener in Yashasvi Jaiswal and is likely to rely more on spinners for the Caribbean leg of the World Cup, making it less probable for Gill and Avesh to continue with the squad.

While Gill and Avesh could still be called into the main squad if any player suffers an injury before or after the match against Canada, it is anticipated that they will return home by the end of this week. Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, the remaining travelling reserves for Team India, are expected to stay with the main squad.

Following the match against Canada, India will head to Bridgetown, Barbados for their first Super Eight match on June 20. The team will then play matches in Antigua on June 22 and St Lucia on June 24, aiming to continue their winning streak and secure a place in the tournament’s final stages.

With India showing strong form and depth in their squad, the upcoming matches promise to be exciting as the team continues its quest for the T20 World Cup title.
