SC rejects plea for probe into killing of Kashmiri pandit by JKLF

In the Bihar hooch tragedy in which 70 people lost their lives, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a petition on 9 January. After consuming spurious liquor in Chhapra, Bihar 70 people died.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Tuesday agreed to hear the case next Monday for an early hearing.

Meanwhile, seeking formulation of a national action plan to curb the manufacturing, trading, and sale of illicit liquor the plea was filed by Aryavarta Mahasabha Foundation through advocate Pawan Prakash Pathak.

The PIL also suggested adequately compensating the victims’ families because of the State government.

“Pass direction that the independent Special Investigation Team may be formed by the respondent and an independent probe be conducted in this hooch tragedy for effective steps as per law of the land,” the plea stated.

Moreover, the PIL said after consuming spurious liquor many people died in states like Gujrat, Punjab, and Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka in recent years.

However, on 31 December 2022, one accused was arrested from Dwarka and was identified as Ram Babu Mahto.
