SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley has been witnessing sub-zero temperatures during the nights because of the clear skies, the MET department said on Tuesday
Drass town of Kargil in Ladakh recorded minus 18.6 amid an ongoing cold wave in the two Union Territories.
The MET department has said that there would be further dip in night temperatures in the entire week as the weather is going to remain dry and the night sky clear during this period in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Night temperatures have come down even in the Jammu region as Jammu recorded 3.1, Katra 6.5, Batote 0.1, Bannihal minus 2.2 and Bhaderwah minus 1.8 as the Tuesday night’s lowest temperatures.
Srinagar City on Tuesday, according to the MET department, recorded minus 3.2, Pahalgam minus 5.3 and Gulmarg minus 10.2 degrees Celsius.
The Ladakh region continues to reel under the sub-zero temperatures with Leh recording minus 10.7, Kargil minus 13.8.
The worst is yet to come in terms of harsh winters in Kashmir Valley as the 40-day-long winter—known locally as ‘Chillai Kalan’ (big winter)—begins on 21 December and ends on 31 January.
