The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is reportedly preparing to impose a three-year ban on wrestler Antim Panghal, as revealed by a source to PTI on Thursday. Panghal’s conduct during the Paris Olympics brought disrepute to the Indian team when she attempted to misuse her accreditation card to allow her sister access to the Athletes Village.
Panghal, who was eliminated from the Olympic competition after losing her opening match in the women’s 53kg category on Wednesday, now faces serious consequences.
“The decision will be formally announced after she reaches India,” the source within the contingent stated.
Following a disciplinary violation reported by French officials, the IOA decided to send Panghal and her support staff back to India. The breach of conduct was considered severe enough to necessitate their immediate departure.
“Her sister was caught for impersonation and was taken to a police station to record her statement,” a source disclosed last night.
