Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins admitted that his team didn’t perform well after their 80-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday in Kolkata. This was SRH’s third loss in a row in IPL 2025. As a result, the team is now struggling at the bottom of the points table.

After the match, Cummins expressed disappointment. He felt they had a good chance to win.
“Not a great time. I think this was gettable, a pretty good wicket. Left too many in the field and then fell well short in the end,” he said.

Furthermore, he stressed the need to review their strategy.
“We need to be realistic, three games in a row it hasn’t come off for us. We need to maybe look back at whether we could have chosen better options. Our batters are best when they take the game on, but looking back, maybe we could have taken different options,” he told ESPNcricinfo.

Moreover, Cummins pointed out that poor fielding hurt them the most.
“It was mainly our fielding; overall, bowling wasn’t bad. We should have taken a few catches and stopped them a bit earlier,” he added.

When asked about Adam Zampa’s absence, Cummins explained the team’s decision.
“We only bowled three overs of spin, the ball wasn’t gripping for us too. So we opted to go without him,” he said.

Despite the loss, Cummins urged the team to stay focused and move forward.
“I will probably address it on whether we could have used different options, but I don’t want to dwell too much on it. We go back to a venue we know so well now,” he said positively.

Match Summary: KKR vs SRH

To begin with, SRH won the toss and decided to bowl first. Their plan worked early. They removed Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine for single-digit scores. KKR was struggling at 16/2.

However, Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi turned things around. Rahane scored 38 from 27 balls, including one four and four sixes. Meanwhile, Raghuvanshi made 50 off 32 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes.

After both fell, Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh kept the momentum going. Iyer smashed 60 runs from 29 balls with seven fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Rinku remained not out with 32 from 17 balls. Together, they added 91 runs for the fifth wicket. As a result, KKR posted a strong total of 200/6 in 20 overs.

In SRH’s bowling unit, Mohammed Shami took 1/29 while Harshal Patel picked up 1/43. They were the best performers with the ball.

SRH’s Struggle in the Run Chase

In reply, SRH never found their rhythm. They lost wickets too quickly and failed to build partnerships. Only Heinrich Klaasen (33 off 21 balls) and Kamindu Mendis (27 off 20 balls) crossed 20 runs.

Meanwhile, KKR bowlers dominated. Vaibhav Arora took 3/29 and Varun Chakravarthy picked up 3/22. Their efforts sealed the victory for KKR.

Points Table Update

With this win, KKR bounced back. Now, they have two wins and two losses, placing them fifth on the table. In contrast, SRH is at the bottom with just one win from four games.
