Watch: Virat Kohli Gives Guard of Honour as Dinesh Karthik ‘Calls Time’ on His Stellar Career

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s dependable finisher, Dinesh Karthik, might have just wrapped up his final act on the cricket field in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite soaring with six consecutive victories, RCB’s pursuit came crashing down in the second eliminator, leaving their dreams of a fairytale season shattered.

In a showdown dubbed as a clash of ‘Royals’, Rajasthan emerged victorious, dealing a four-wicket blow to Bengaluru in the Eliminator held at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The echoes of “ee sala cup namde” faded into silence as hopes of reaching the title clash in Chennai evaporated, stirring emotions amidst the cricketing spectacle at the world’s grandest stadium.

Acknowledging the fans’ support, Karthik removed his gloves and received applause from the stands, marking the end of an era. A heartwarming moment unfolded as RCB’s stalwart, Virat Kohli, embraced Karthik, offering solace amidst his emotional farewell.

While Karthik has yet to formally announce his IPL retirement, hints dropped during the tournament suggest this season may indeed mark his final chapter with the franchise. As he made his way back to the dressing room, Karthik was honored by his teammates, symbolizing his invaluable contributions to RCB.

Throughout a turbulent season, Karthik’s prowess in the death overs proved pivotal, with his impactful cameos inspiring RCB’s playoff berth. Should this indeed be his IPL swansong, Karthik leaves behind an impressive legacy, amassing 4,842 runs in 257 matches, adorned with an impressive tally of 22 half-centuries.

In a glittering IPL career spanning 17 years, Karthik represented six franchises, debuting in the inaugural 2008 season with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). His journey led him through stints with Punjab, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and finally, RCB. Wrapping up the current season with 326 runs in 15 matches, at an average of 36.22 and a dazzling strike rate of 187.36, Karthik bids farewell to the IPL stage with a memorable curtain call.
