Rohit Sharma and the Indian cricket team have arrived at ITC Maurya, where they will celebrate with a specially prepared cake before heading to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his office. They have roughly two hours to get ready and leave their rooms for the meeting with the Prime Minister. After the meeting at noon, they return to ITC Maurya for a quick change before heading back to the airport. They are expected to arrive in Mumbai by 4 PM, all following a 15-hour flight from Barbados. After facing delays caused by Hurricane Beryl in Barbados, Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, landed in New Delhi on Thursday. They returned home triumphantly after clinching the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title in the Caribbean. Rohit’s team ended India’s long wait for an ICC title by defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.
The team departed from Barbados via a charter flight from Grantley Adams International Airport. Due to the category-four hurricane, the Indian team had been stranded for three days. Air India’s special charter flight, Air India Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC), took off from the Caribbean island at 4:50 a.m. local time and arrived in New Delhi at around 6:20 a.m. IST today.
BCCI President Roger Binny is at ITC Maurya in Delhi, where the Men’s Indian Cricket Team is also present. They have arrived in the capital from Barbados after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) arranged the charter flight, which included the Indian squad, support staff, players’ families, board officials, and members of the media contingent. This was due to the delayed departure caused by Hurricane Beryl. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla mentioned that Indian journalists stranded in Barbados also boarded the same flight, along with BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah.
After receiving a hero’s welcome, Rohit and his team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 10 a.m. Following the breakfast meeting, they will head to Mumbai. In the evening, there will be a road show from Nariman Point in an open bus, culminating in a felicitation event at Wankhede Stadium to celebrate their victory.
