Karun Nair delivered a scintillating performance for the Mysore Warriors on Monday, scoring an unbeaten 124 off just 48 balls in their Maharaja Trophy T20 match against the Mangalore Dragons at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After being put into bat by Mangalore skipper Shreyas Gopal, Mysore struggled initially, reaching 61/2 in 8 overs. Nair joined forces with Samit Dravid, and together they added 36 runs in 21 balls before Samit was dismissed by Nischith Rao for 16, leaving the score at 97 for 3 in 11.3 overs.
Nair, who has represented India in six Tests and two ODIs, shifted gears and dominated the innings. Despite losing Sumit Kumar (15) in the 16th over, Nair, along with Manoj Bhandage (31 not out off 14 balls), accelerated aggressively. The pair hammered 85 runs in the last 29 balls, helping Mysore post a formidable total.
Nair’s innings included 13 fours and 9 sixes, achieving a staggering strike rate of 258.33.
In reply, the Mangalore Dragons struggled against the Warriors’ bowlers and were restricted to 138 for 7 in 14 overs before rain interrupted the match, leading to a 27-run win for the Warriors (VJD method). K Siddharth (50 off 27 balls) and Nikin Jose (32 off 21 balls) were the standout performers for the Dragons.
