Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem received a hero’s welcome upon his return from the Paris Olympics, where he made history by winning Pakistan’s first individual Olympic gold medal. The athlete’s triumphant return was marked by emotional scenes and widespread celebration in his hometown, Mian Channu.
A video of the grand reception, which has gone viral on social media, shows Arshad Nadeem being mobbed by an enthusiastic crowd as he is greeted by his mother. The video captures the excitement of locals, many of whom stood on rooftops to catch a glimpse of the Olympic champion. Nadeem had achieved a record throw of 92.97 meters in the javelin final, setting a new Games record and securing the gold medal.
Upon arrival at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Arshad Nadeem was welcomed with a water cannon salute. The emotional reunion included heartfelt embraces with his mother, father, and elder brother, who draped him in garlands. The celebrations continued as Nadeem met other family members and villagers who traveled from Mian Channu to see him.
The airport was packed with fans carrying placards and posters, eager to celebrate Nadeem’s historic win. The overwhelming crowd prompted security to escort Nadeem back to the state lounge for his safety.
Government officials and ministers also joined in the celebrations, honoring Nadeem’s remarkable achievement. His gold medal is Pakistan’s first since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where the country won in hockey. Additionally, Nadeem’s victory marks the first time a Pakistani track and field athlete has secured an Olympic gold medal.
