Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates IPL History with 11 Sixes at Age 14

At only 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has etched his name in IPL lore. On April 28, 2025, Rajasthan Royals’ teenage phenom hit 11 sixes in a breathtaking 101 off 59 deliveries against Gujarat Titans at Jaipur.

With an eye-popping strike rate of 265.78, Suryavanshi broke the record for the most sixes by an Indian in one IPL innings. He placed himself alongside T20 cricket’s greatest legends.

His 11 sixes not only saw him become the Indian with a record number of sixes in an IPL game, eclipsing efforts of Murali Vijay (127* with 11 sixes in 2010) and Sanju Samson (92* with 10 sixes in 2018). He also finished among some of the format’s all-time classic performances.

A Dream Debut in the IPL for Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Suryavanshi’s rise has been nothing short of spectacular. Making his IPL debut earlier this season, he immediately impressed by smashing 34 runs off just 20 balls, including a six off the very first ball he faced. His fearless attitude, shot selection, and maturity far beyond his years stunned fans and cricket experts alike. Despite his tender age, Suryavanshi handled the pressure of the IPL stage like a seasoned pro.

IPL 2025’s quickest half-century for Vaibhav Suryavanshi

On the same historic evening, Suryavanshi stormed to a half-century in 17 balls, claiming the fastest IPL 2025 fifty and becoming the youngest player in IPL history to score a half-century. Up against the likes of Mohammad Siraj and Ishant Sharma, the 14-year-old tore apart seasoned bowling attacks with breathtaking confidence.

Part of T20’s Six-Hitting Legends

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 11 sixes place him in a rare club of IPL power-hitters:

  • Chris Gayle remains the record holder for most sixes in an IPL innings hitting 17 sixes in his record-breaking 175 off 66 balls* for RCB vs Pune Warriors in 2013.
  • Brendon McCullum hit 13 sixes in his record 158* for KKR in the inaugural IPL match in 2008.
  • AB de Villiers hit 12 sixes in his unforgettable 129* against Gujarat Lions in 2016.
  • Sanath Jayasuriya, Andre Russell, and Adam Gilchrist are a few others who have achieved double-digit sixes in an IPL match.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the leader among Indians, breaking Murali Vijay and Sanju Samson’s records.
