Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks 3 Records on IPL Debut at 14, Joins Andre Russell in Elite List

14-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a strong Indian Premier League (IPL) debut. While playing against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Suryavanshi began his innings with a six on the very first ball. He also became the 10th player to do the same. Suryavanshi entered the exclusive list in the IPL encounter between RR and LSG at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Impressive Start to IPL Career for Vaibhav Suryavanshi 

The young batter began his IPL career by hooking Shardul Thakur for a record six over covers, leaving everyone in wonder. His stay was cut short by Aiden Markram, who stumped him off Rishabh Pant for a powerful 34 off 20 balls, including two fours and three sixes. He scored his runs at a strike rate of 170.00. He also shared an 85-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal while chasing a score of 181.

Three Records Set by the 14 Year Old

Here are three records Vaibhav Suryavanshi made on his first day in the IPL:

  1. Youngest Debutant in IPL History At 14 years and 23 days, Suryavanshi is now the youngest debutant in the IPL, which began in 2008. He surpassed Prayas Ray Barman’s record. Barman debuted in the IPL at 16 years and 157 days. That was in 2019 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

  2. Youngest Player to Score a Six and Four in IPL Suryavanshi also joined the list of the youngest players to have scored a six in IPL. As of Saturday, the record belonged to Riyan Parag of RR. Parag scored a six at 17 years and 161 days. Suryavanshi is also the youngest to have scored a four in IPL, surpassing Prayas Ray Barman’s six-year-old record.

  3. Part of Elite List for Hitting Six on First Ball Suryavanshi has also joined the list of Australia’s Rob Quiney, Caribbean’s Kevon Cooper, West Indies great Andre Russell, West Indies all-rounder Carlos Braithwaite, India’s Aniket Choudhary, West Indies’ Javon Searles, India’s Siddhesh Lad, Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana, and India’s Sameer Rizwi in the elite list of players who started their IPL journey with a six off the very first ball.

Arriving at the match, LSG won the toss and decided to bowl first. Fifty-plus scores by Aiden Markram (66 in 45 balls, with five fours and three sixes). Ayush Badoni (50 in 34 balls, with five fours and a six) and a cameo by Abdul Samad (30* in 10 balls, with four sixes) led LSG to 180/5 in their 20 overs. RR were two runs short of the target. It was RR’s fourth loss on the trot.
