Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books on Saturday as the youngest-ever player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at just 14 years and 23 days old. The left-handed batter from Bihar made history after being included in Rajasthan Royals’ squad for their match against Lucknow Super Giants at home.
Suryavanshi first caught public attention when Rajasthan Royals picked him during the IPL mega auction in Jeddah last November, becoming the youngest player ever bought in the T20 league’s history.
Named in Impact Sub List for RR vs LSG Match
Although not part of the playing XI at the start of the game, Suryavanshi featured in the Royals’ ‘Impact Subs’ list, keeping him eligible to be called into the match later, especially during their batting innings. Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bat first, meaning Suryavanshi’s debut could happen in the second innings.
Captaincy Shuffle Amid Injury Setback for RR
Rajasthan Royals faced a leadership change for the match as regular skipper Sanju Samson missed out due to an injury sustained during their recent fixture against Delhi Capitals. In his absence, batting all-rounder Riyan Parag returned to lead the side, having earlier captained the Royals during the first half of the season.
Speaking at the toss, Parag said, “We were looking to bowl. It is a little bit warm under lights, should be better than the last time. Vaibhav the youngster comes in.”
LSG Make One Change; Royals Fight to Stay Alive
Lucknow Super Giants made a single change, bringing in pacer Prince Yadav for Akash Deep. With four wins from seven matches, LSG sit in the mid-table and are in a solid position to push for the playoffs.
In contrast, Rajasthan Royals are in a do-or-die situation, placed eighth with just two wins and five losses. Their most recent heartbreak came in a Super Over defeat to Delhi Capitals, where they failed to chase down 189 despite having six wickets in hand.
