“I’ve loved every single minute”: Tyson Fury Announces Retirement from Boxing Again

Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing following his second defeat in the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk last month.

The former world heavyweight champion shared a video on social media while seated in a car, declaring his decision to quit the sport three weeks after losing to the Ukrainian in Riyadh by unanimous decision, where he failed to secure the unified world titles.

“Hi everybody. I’m going to keep this short and sweet,” Fury said in the video. “I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute and I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side.”

Fury had previously announced his retirement from boxing in 2022 after defeating Dillian Whyte, only to return later that year to fight Derek Chisora and set up unification bouts with Usyk. His earlier retirements in 2013 and 2017 were also brief and made public on social media.

At 36, Fury’s announcement comes amid speculation about a potential blockbuster fight against fellow British heavyweight Anthony Joshua.

Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, told Sky Sports: “Good luck to him, God bless him. I’m thrilled for him. I’ve been saying since his last fight whatever he chooses to do I support him 100%. He’s done unbelievably great things for British boxing, world boxing. He’s been involved in some of the most exciting fights, certainly in the second coming, it’s been exciting fights every one of them. I’m delighted for him. I hope he and his family enjoy the fruits of his labour.”

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, expressed doubt over the end of Fury’s career and, when asked if an all-British showdown could change his mind, added: “It’s up to him. If he wants to, he will. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t. He doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody.”
