Saturday evening’s IPL 2025 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants began with a light-hearted moment as the toss had to be redone due to an amusing slip-up by LSG skipper Rishabh Pant.
Under pressure to revive their season, interim Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag flipped the coin, but Pant forgot to make his call. As the coin landed, a brief silence followed, leaving everyone — including the match referee — puzzled. Broadcaster Simon Doull then requested a second toss.

Pant grinned and joked, “Tune aise hi phek diya?” (“You just tossed it like that?”), sparking laughter from everyone around. The second toss went smoothly, with Pant calling tails and winning it.
High Stakes Despite the
While the toss mix-up brought smiles, the stakes of the match remained serious. LSG entered the contest fifth on the points table with four wins from seven games. In contrast, the Royals were struggling at eighth, having won only two matches.
The Royals’ regular captain, Sanju Samson, missed the match due to injury, pushing Riyan Parag to take the reins.
“We were looking to bowl,” Parag said at the toss. “It is a little bit warm under lights, should be better than the last time. Vaibhav the youngster comes in.”
14-Year-Old Suryavanshi Makes IPL History
The youngster Parag referred to was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who created history by becoming the youngest-ever player to be named in an IPL matchday squad at just 14 years and 23 days old.
Listed as an Impact Sub, Suryavanshi was expected to contribute later in the game with the bat. Parag confirmed the move was planned ahead of the match.
Parag Reflects on Royals’ Season
Speaking about the Royals’ overall performance, Parag acknowledged the challenges they’ve faced.
“It’s been kinda tricky, we’ve been doing small bits right but we haven’t been able to put a collective performance together. We’ve been having honest chats as a team,” he said.
As Rajasthan fights to stay in playoff contention, the combination of a comedic toss moment and a record-breaking teenager has given fans an unexpected highlight — regardless of the match’s final result.
