India is gearing up to face Australia in a Super Eight match on June 24 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. This match was set after India secured their spot in the second round of the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating co-hosts USA. They are among the first three teams to enter the Super Eight, alongside South Africa and Australia. Regardless of their group standings, India and Australia are pre-determined to clash on June 24.
The match scheduled for June 24 will feature A1 (India) against B2 (Australia). Even if India finishes second in Group A, they will progress to the Super Eight as A1, while Australia, pre-seeded as B2, will maintain their position regardless of their group stage performance.
India is also set to face New Zealand (C1) and Sri Lanka (D2) as per the pre-decided schedule. However, if New Zealand and Sri Lanka fail to qualify for the Super Eight, other non-seeded teams from Groups C and D will join India’s group in the second round.
As of now, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are leading the race to join India’s group in the Super Eight. Even if West Indies tops Group C and South Africa finishes second in Group D, they cannot face India in the Super Eight due to the pre-determined seedings.
