T20 World Cup 2024: Aussie Captain Provides Update on Mitchell Starc’s Injury

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh provided an update on Mitchell Starc’s injury after the veteran pacer left the field without completing his over against Oman in the T20 World Cup. Starc was replaced by Cameron Green in the 15th over after bowling just one delivery due to apparent pain. Despite Starc’s absence, Australia secured a comfortable 39-run victory.

Marsh explained in the post-match presentation that Starc’s departure was due to cramp, and they didn’t want to take any chances with his condition. He emphasized the importance of trusting Starc’s judgment in such situations.

Although Australia won convincingly, Oman had their moments in the game, keeping the pressure on the Australian team. Australia struggled initially with the bat, with Mehran Khan even threatening a hat-trick by dismissing Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell in consecutive deliveries. However, Marcus Stoinis and David Warner’s partnership of 102 runs rescued Australia from a precarious position.

Marsh acknowledged the competitive nature of the game, noting that the tournament’s style seems to lean towards lower-scoring matches. He praised Stoinis for his composed innings and expressed anticipation for their upcoming match against England, expecting different playing conditions.

Having secured a victory in their opening match, Australia will now prepare to face arch-rivals England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.
