SRH’s Abhishek Sharma completes 1,000 runs in IPL career

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Abhishek Sharma achieved a significant milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by completing 1,000 runs on Sunday during his team’s match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. The 23-year-old scored 29 runs off 20 balls, including two fours and two sixes, at a strike rate of 145.00.

In his IPL career spanning 50 matches, Abhishek has amassed 1,017 runs in 48 innings, with an average of 24.21 and a strike rate exceeding 142. He has registered five half-centuries, with his highest score being 75. Of these runs, 63 came in three matches while playing for Delhi Capitals before joining SRH in 2019.

With SRH, Abhishek has scored 954 runs in 47 matches, averaging 23.26 and striking at 140.5, with five half-centuries and a best score of 75. His most impressive IPL season was in 2022, where he scored 426 runs in 14 matches at an average of 30.43 and a strike rate of over 133, including two fifties.

In the current season, Abhishek has been the seventh-highest run-scorer, tallying 124 runs in three matches at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 200, with one half-century and a best score of 63.

SRH’s highest run-getter of all time remains Australian legend David Warner, who has amassed 4,014 runs in 95 matches at an average of 49.55 and a strike rate exceeding 142.59, including two centuries and 40 fifties, with a best score of 126.

In the match against GT, SRH chose to bat first but could only post 162/8 in their 20 overs, with Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad being the top run-scorers. GT successfully chased down the target, thanks to contributions from Sai Sudarshan and David Miller, winning by seven wickets with five balls to spare. Mohit Sharma was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his bowling performance.

Currently, GT is in the fourth spot in the points table with two wins and a loss, earning them four points. SRH is in the fifth spot, with one win and two losses, totaling two points.
