Congress leader Shama Mohamed congratulated the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma after their record-breaking Champions Trophy 2025 win in Dubai on Sunday. Her congratulatory message came just days after she had taken potshots at Rohit’s fitness and captaincy during the semi-final phase of the tournament, which had drawn a lot of flak from fans and cricket pundits alike.
India won the Champions Trophy title with a four-wicket win over New Zealand in the final, chasing down 251 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium with an over to spare. Rohit set the tone for India’s comprehensive victory by leading from the front with a brilliant 76-run knock.
Shama Mohamed, who earlier referred to Rohit as “fat for an athlete” and termed him “the least impressive captain,” jumped onto X (formerly Twitter) to attest to his contribution towards the team’s victory.

Her appreciation, however, did not escape notice for fans reminding her of her previous criticism, with most noticing the irony in her reversal of opinion.
Rohit Sharma’s Reaction to Winning and Fitness Rumors
Despite the off-field commotion, Rohit Sharma kept his cool, having a captain’s innings in the final. He also spoke about fitness and retirement issues as he complimented his colleagues and the encouragement from fans.
“I thank all who came to back us. The crowd has been terrific. Not our home ground but turned it into our home ground. Extremely fulfilling victory. From the start, our spinners. there was too much hype, but they never let us down. It benefited them, and we took advantage of it. We were extremely consistent with our bowling,” Rohit stated after the match.
Complimenting KL Rahul on his calm finish, Rohit said, “[KL] has a very strong mind, never gets intimidated by the pressure surrounding him. He finished the game for us. He chooses the right shot to play in pressure moments, which frees up the rest of the batsmen to play freely. Take Hardik, for instance. The batsmanship displayed by all the batsmen overall was special.”
Virat Kohli on India’s Young Brigade
Star batsman Virat Kohli also shared his thrill at India’s victory, especially after a tough tour of Australia.
“It’s been great, we needed to bounce back after a tough Australia tour. Beautiful playing with a group of incredible youngsters. They’re stepping up and taking India in the right direction,” Kohli added.
“When you depart, you wish to depart in a stronger position. So many game-changing knocks (Shubman) Gill, Shreyas (Iyer), Rahul have played. The team is in good hands,” he said.
India went unbeaten in the tournament, further solidifying their position as the No.1 ODI team in the world. The third Champions Trophy title for the team solidifies their position as one of cricket’s strongest forces.
