Mitchell Santner, the Mumbai Indians all-rounder, was stunned by the dramatic finish against Delhi Capitals. He described the three run-outs at the end as “crazy.” Moreover, he praised Karun Nair’s fiery 89 as “special” and credited Karn Sharma for making a “massive” impact.
Delhi Starts Strong But Crumbles Late
At first, Delhi Capitals looked in control. They were chasing a big target of 206 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Karun Nair led the way with a brilliant knock. His 89 off just 40 balls included many aggressive strokes. As a result, Delhi dominated most of the chase.
However, things changed quickly. Once Nair got out, the rest of the batting line-up collapsed. Despite their strong position, Delhi failed to finish the job.
Final Overs Bring a Stunning Twist
With 15 runs needed from 9 balls, Ashutosh Sharma gave Delhi hope. He smashed two boundaries off Jasprit Bumrah. But then, the game flipped.
Ashutosh went for two runs. However, Will Jacks fired a sharp throw. It reached the stumps in time and caught Ashutosh just short. Next ball, Raj Bawa threw from the field to Ryan Rickelton, who completed another run-out by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav. Finally, Santner finished the match with a direct hit to remove Mohit Sharma. Therefore, Mumbai Indians won by 12 runs.
“Nice to get over the line. Every game seems to be close in IPL. This was one hell of a game here in Delhi. It’s crazy to finish off with three run-outs. It was one of those games where we were kind of behind for a bit, and then he managed to get us right back. The bowling coach was pretty happy. To nail six in a row in an over was amazing,” Santner said.
Karn Sharma Spins the Game in MI’s Favor
Before the thrilling finish, Karn Sharma helped Mumbai shift momentum. He broke a 119-run partnership by dismissing Abishek Porel for 33. Soon after, Tristan Stubbs tried to attack but got caught by Naman Dhir. Then, KL Rahul mistimed a shot and gave Karn a return catch.
Because of this, Delhi lost three quick wickets. Meanwhile, Santner also took two important scalps. Yet he made sure to credit Karn’s efforts.
“To get three wickets by Karn was massive; it was the only way to slow them down. We had to take wickets in the middle overs. The spinners who have bowled defensively have done well (in the tournament). Karun Nair’s innings was special, playing his first game this season,” he added.
