Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan achieved the 2000-run T20 mark on Friday in the IPL 2025 match against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The left-handed opening batsman achieved the mark when he passed 32 runs in his innings, becoming the second-quickest batter in history to reach 2000 runs in the T20 format. Only Australia’s Shaun Marsh achieved 2000 T20 runs in fewer innings than Sudharsan, who achieved it in 54 innings.
Breaks Tendulkar’s Record for Fastest Indian to 2000 T20 Runs
The Tamil Nadu batter aged 23 shattered batting great Sachin Tendulkar’s record for being the quickest Indian batter to reach 2000 T20 runs. Tendulkar, who played his first T20 game for India in its inaugural game in the format against South Africa in 2006, achieved the feat in his 59th match in 2011.
Last season, Sudharsan hit 1000 runs in the format in an IPL game against the Mumbai Indians in his 32nd innings, becoming the third-quickest Indian to the mark behind Devdutt Padikkal (25), Rohan Kadam (27), and Tendulkar (31).
Sai Sudharsan The Fastest to 1000 IPL Runs
Sudharsan had also emerged as the fastest Indian batsman to achieve 1000 runs in the IPL previous season in just 25 innings, bettering the co-Indian record of the all-time great Tendulkar and Gaikwad, who achieved the milestone in 31 innings. Whereas Tendulkar had achieved the mark in April 2010, Chennai Super Kings captain Gaikwad reached 1000 runs in the 2022 season.
The southpaw has been on a fifty-a-session spree in the ongoing season, scoring five fifties in his last nine matches for the Titans.
With consistent performances and record-breaking feats, Sudharsan has cemented his place as one of the most promising young batters in Indian cricket. His aggressive style at the top and ability to maintain composure under pressure have made him a vital asset for the Gujarat Titans.
