“Sachin Ko Bolo….”: Yograj Singh Reveals Why Arjun Tendulkar Ended Training With Him

Former Indian cricketer and coach Yograj Singh, known for his outspoken nature, has once again drawn attention with his candid remarks during a podcast appearance on “Unfiltered by Samdish” with YouTuber Samdish Bhatia. Yograj, the father of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, opened up about his brief coaching stint with Sachin Tendulkar’s son, Arjun Tendulkar, in 2022.

Yograj revealed that Arjun trained under him for just 12 days before the arrangement ended. During that short period, Arjun made his First-Class debut for Goa and scored a century against Rajasthan. Shortly after, he secured an IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians.

Yograj claimed that the decision to end Arjun’s training was influenced by concerns about being associated with him.

“When he scored a hundred on debut and then returned to IPL, then people were afraid, what if his (Arjun’s) name gets stuck with me? Do you understand what I mean? So people are afraid of getting a tag behind their name,” Yograj stated during the podcast.

He further added, “I told Yuvi – Sachin ko bolo – leave him with me for a year and see what happens.”

Arjun, an all-rounder, has since played 17 First-Class matches, scoring 532 runs and taking 37 wickets. In List A cricket, he has featured in 18 games, scoring 102 runs and claiming 25 wickets. His IPL journey began in 2023, where he has represented the Mumbai Indians in five matches, taking three wickets. Ahead of the upcoming IPL season, the five-time champions retained Arjun for his base price of Rs. 30 lakhs.

Yograj, now 66, had a brief international career, playing one Test and six ODIs for India, with his last appearance in 1981.
