Royal Challengers Bengaluru Blamed in FIR for Stampede Mayhem at Chinnaswamy

A FIR has been lodged against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) relating to the stampede in front of the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru that killed 11 people on June 4.

Event Management Company and KSCA Also Named in FIR

Along with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the event-management company DNA Entertainment Private Limited and the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s administrative committee have also been named in the FIR lodged by the Cubbon Park police.

Legal Action Under Multiple Sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

The police said the case was filed at Cubbon Park police station under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by using dangerous weapons or means), 190 (liability of members of an unlawful assembly for offences committed in pursuit of a common object), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duty), 125(12) (acts endangering life or personal safety of others), 142 (unlawful assembly) and 121 (abetment of an offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Stampede During RCB Victory Celebration Kills 11 Amidst FIR

At least 11 individuals died and many more got injured in the stampede that occurred during the mega celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) first-ever IPL title outside the stadium.

Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah asserted that the location was unable to accommodate the mass number of people, further noting that the capacity of the stadium was 35,000 but 2 to 3 lakh individuals had arrived to celebrate.

The state government declared ₹10 lakh compensation for the kin of the deceased in the tragedy. It also promised free medical care to everyone who got injured, including those hospitalized in Bowring and other hospitals in the city.

RCB Expresses Shock, Announces Support for Families

In a release, the RCB also conveyed deep shock and promised instant financial help to the bereaved families.

“The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident,” the statement read.
