Rohit Sharma Recalls Pujara’s Early Dominance and Mugging Incident

During a book launch event in Mumbai for The Diary of a Cricketer’s Wife by Pooja Pujara, Indian cricket stars Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma shared a humorous and slightly scary incident from the past. The event, which highlighted both the personal and professional bonds between the two, brought out an old memory from 2012, when India A was touring the West Indies.

Pujara’s Mugging Story

Rohit Sharma, attending the launch as a guest, recalled an offbeat story that wasn’t included in the book. “Is there anything about the India A West Indies tour in 2012? What happened?” Rohit asked Pujara, grinning. Pujara replied, “I haven’t told. I mean, she is aware, but she doesn’t know the details.”

Cheteshwar Pujara then revealed, “I am a vegetarian. So we were looking for a vegetarian meal at night. It was in TNT (Trinidad and Tobago) where we went out at 11 in the evening. We didn’t find the meal, but when we were walking back, I was mugged. I can’t tell you in detail about it, but that’s the story he is referring to.”

Rohit added with a laugh, “Moral of the story is that he can be stubborn. We told him. We warned him not to go out at night. Don’t step out after 9 PM. This is the West Indies.”

Rohit On Playing Against Pujara In Their Youth

The fun didn’t stop there. Rohit recalled how tough it was to dismiss Pujara in domestic games when they were younger. “I still remember, team meetings only revolved around him, how to get him out, and if we don’t get him out, probably we’d lose the game,” he said.

The 37-year-old batter joked that his mother used to be shocked at his appearance after long matches. “I would say, ‘Mom, what do I do? There’s a batsman by the name of Cheteshwar Pujara. He’s been batting for three days,’” Rohit quipped.

The moment offered fans a glimpse of the duo’s camaraderie and mutual respect, with a side of humor and nostalgia.
