RCB Ropes In Mayank Agarwal as Replacement for Injured Devdutt Padikkal

Mayank Agarwal joined IPL 2025 late when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) assigned him the spot as the replacement of Devdutt Padikkal for the rest of the season. Experienced opener Mayank joined RCB for his reserve price of ₹1 crore.

Padikkal Ruled Out Due to Injury

Padikkal was excluded for the remainder of the season after he suffered an injury to his right hamstring. The left-handed batsman, who has been an integral member of the RCB batting unit, was the side’s second-highest run scorer in the first 11 matches. In IPL 2025, Padikkal has played 10 innings and made 247 runs, with two half-centuries, at a strike rate of 150.60.

A Homecoming for Mayank Agarwal

Bengaluru boy Mayank Agarwal, who had debuted in the IPL for RCB, comes back after over a decade. The explosive right-hand batter has played 127 IPL games, aggregating 2661 runs. He has one IPL hundred and 13 fifties to his credit. He played for Sunrisers Hyderabad last season but remained unsold in the mega auction after SRH released him.

Experience and Stability for the Business End

The inclusion of Mayank adds a sense of familiarity and experience to the RCB top order, especially at a crucial juncture of the tournament. Known for his clean striking and quick starts in the powerplay, Mayank could prove to be a vital asset as the team eyes a spot in the playoffs. With experience across franchises and formats, the 33-year-old will be expected to slot in seamlessly and shoulder responsibility in Devdutt’s absence.

RCB Cricket Director Reacts on Inclusion of Mayank Agarwal

“It’s really unfortunate to lose Devdutt at this stage of the tournament, especially after the impact he’s had this season. He’s been a key part of our top order. We wish him a speedy recovery. At the same time, we’re pleased to welcome Mayank Agarwal to RCB. “His experience and versatility will prove valuable for us. As we head into the business end of the season,” said Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket, RCB.

RCB’s last three league stage games will be against Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow on 9 May. Sunrisers Hyderabad at Bengaluru on 13 May. And Kolkata Knight Riders at Bengaluru on 17 May.
