Rathi Gets One-Match Ban for Clash with Abhishek Sharma

Lucknow Super Giants’ spinner Digvesh Rathi has received a one-match suspension following a fiery exchange with Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma. The incident happened on May 19 at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Rathi also faces a 50% match fee fine. Meanwhile, Abhishek has been fined 25% of his match fees.

Repeated Offence Led to Suspension

Earlier this season, Rathi had already received warnings and fines for his intense celebrations. Despite that, he didn’t stop the behavior. He slightly changed his celebration style but crossed the line again against Hyderabad. As a result, he will miss LSG’s next game against Gujarat Titans.

Verbal Fight After Big Wicket

The heated moment came during the eighth over of Hyderabad’s chase of 207 runs. Abhishek had blasted a rapid 18-ball fifty and was in top form. Rathi dismissed him for 59 runs and followed it with his signature “book-signing” celebration. This annoyed Abhishek, who then confronted Rathi. Both players exchanged words before LSG teammates stepped in. The umpires had to intervene to calm things down.

Abhishek’s Hair Gesture Draws Attention

While walking off the field, Abhishek made a gesture that looked like pulling Rathi’s hair. That action added to the controversy. Later, during the post-match handshakes, the tension resurfaced. Both players were seen arguing again until LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya asked them to let it go.

Hyderabad Clinch Victory

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by six wickets. Abhishek’s explosive start gave the team early momentum. Contributions from Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, and Kamindu Mendis ensured a smooth chase. This marked Hyderabad’s fourth win of the season. Meanwhile, the loss officially ended Lucknow’s chances of reaching the playoffs. Now, either Mumbai Indians or Delhi Capitals will join Gujarat, Bengaluru, and Punjab in the final four.
