Rain Threatens RCB’s Playoff Hopes Ahead of Key Clash With CSK

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) might struggle to secure 16 points in the IPL standings as heavy rain looms over their crucial match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Continuous Rain Disrupts Preparations

For the past two days, Bengaluru has witnessed nonstop rain. Unfortunately, this pattern might continue on match day. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), “Rain or thundershowers would occur towards afternoon or evening.”

Rain has already disrupted both teams’ training sessions. As per reports, CSK began their practice at 3 PM. However, after just 45 minutes on the field, rain forced the players indoors. They resumed training at 4:30 PM.

RCB arrived at the stadium around 5 PM. Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal batted for nearly an hour before rain interrupted their session. This time, the downpour lasted for three hours, forcing RCB to cancel their practice. The city also experienced thunderstorms and lightning, which led to waterlogging in several areas.

RCB Eyes Crucial Playoff Spot

CSK, five-time IPL champions, have already been eliminated from playoff contention. With only two wins in ten matches, they sit at the bottom of the points table.

For RCB, however, this match is extremely important. A win would push them to 16 points and secure a higher position in the standings. Currently, they hold the third spot with seven wins and three losses.

Bengaluru has already seen weather disruptions this season. Last month, an RCB vs Punjab Kings match was reduced to 14 overs per side due to persistent rain.

RCB vs CSK: A Rivalry Renewed

This will be the first time since 2024 that CSK will face RCB in Bengaluru. That previous encounter was a thrilling contest where RCB pulled off a 27-run win, securing a spot in the playoffs.

In the ongoing season, RCB made history by defeating CSK at Chepauk for the first time since 2008. They dominated that game, winning by 50 runs.

Will Rain Play Spoilsport?

With RCB aiming for a crucial win and CSK looking to salvage some pride, all eyes will be on the weather. If rain washes out the match, RCB might lose their chance to reach 16 points, making their playoff journey uncertain.
