Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a place in the IPL 2025 playoffs after a thrilling win against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday. The victory was the result of a strong team effort and smart strategy, which their head coach Ricky Ponting praised after the match.
Ponting Praises Team’s Simplicity and Grit
Inside the dressing room, Ponting spoke to the players and congratulated them for sticking to a straightforward game plan throughout the season. He appreciated how the team played to their strengths, regardless of the match pressure.
He also applauded the batting unit, who scored a huge 219 runs for the loss of five wickets. The target proved too much for RR, and PBKS walked away with a vital win.
Nehal and Shreyas Shine with Key Partnership
Ponting gave special credit to Nehal Wadhera, who scored an explosive 70 off just 37 balls. He also acknowledged Shreyas for his role in the partnership that added 67 runs in 44 balls.
He said, “What you did was manage to put pressure back on them straight away. You have to do that in this format, right? You had a great partnership with Shreyas. I actually said to him at one of the timeouts that because you’re so good, you can find a way to score runs, be out there in a partnership, and you ended up putting on 67 off 44 balls.”
Shashank Singh Delivers Again
Ponting was full of praise for Shashank Singh, who remained unbeaten on 59 and once again proved his value in crucial moments.
“Shashank (Singh), awesome again. Every time you have been confronted with something in the tournament, you have found a way to get it done,” Ponting added.
Harpreet Brar’s Breakthrough Bowling
PBKS also impressed with the ball. The bowlers defended the 219-run total effectively, especially Harpreet Brar. He took three key wickets while conceding just 22 runs in his four overs.
Ponting said, “You and Dubey have bowled more than anybody here over the last eight weeks. You put in the hard work, you get a chance, and it yields results. So, personally, all your teammates and coaches couldn’t be happier that you got the chance to make an impact, and you made an impact by registering figures of 3/22 in four overs and grabbing all big wickets. Well done!”
