Paris Olympics 2024: This Gold Medalist Accuses Mother of ‘Draining His Bank Account’

Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo, who made history at the Paris Olympics by winning gold medals in both the men’s floor exercise and the artistic gymnastics vault, recently revealed personal turmoil involving his mother, Angelica. Yulo is the first athlete from the Philippines to win two Olympic gold medals and the first Filipino male to top the podium at the Games.

In a surprising turn of events, Yulo disclosed that his mother had allegedly drained his bank account, including funds from his tournament incentives and monthly allowances for gymnastics. According to Yulo, he discovered the discrepancies only after taking control of the account and reviewing bank statements. He mentioned that he never received a six-figure incentive for a previous tournament and expressed his frustration over the situation, noting that it was not just about the amount but the fact that his mother acted without his consent.

Yulo’s mother, Angelica, addressed the matter in an interview with Bombo Radyo, explaining that she transferred the money to another account for safekeeping, fearing that Yulo might run out of money in the future. She had deposited the funds under her name at BPI and turned it into a bond for a credit card.

The conflict between Yulo and his mother also extends to his relationship with his girlfriend, Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose. Yulo revealed that his mother disapproved of Chloe due to cultural differences and her personal demeanor, even though Angelica had not met Chloe in person. Yulo’s mother’s disapproval worsened as he began to set boundaries and stand up for his relationship, which he said played a significant role in the rift between them.
