The Indian Premier League (IPL) has decided to pay tribute to the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. This tribute will take place during the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday, 24 April, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Teams to Wear Black Armbands

As a mark of respect, players from both teams will wear black armbands. Moreover, there will be no fireworks or cheerleader performances during the game. In addition, reports suggest that a one-minute silence will be observed before the match begins.

Death Toll Rises to 26

On Tuesday, terrorists attacked a group of tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. As a result, 26 people lost their lives. This tragic incident has sparked national outrage and mourning.

Cricketers React to the Tragedy

Soon after the news broke, Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya expressed their sorrow.

Virat Kohli wrote on Instagram, “Deeply saddened by the heinous attack in Pahalgam on innocent people. Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. Praying for peace and strength to families of all those who lost their lives and justice to be served for this cruel act.”

Likewise, Hardik Pandya posted, “Devastated by the news from Pahalgam. My thoughts are with those affected and their families.”

Resistance Front Claims Responsibility

Meanwhile, The Resistance Front has taken responsibility for the attack. This group is considered a front for the banned terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Government Announces Compensation

Following the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir government announced compensation for the victims. Families of the deceased will receive ₹10 lakh. Those seriously injured will get ₹2 lakh, and people with minor injuries will receive ₹1 lakh.

Protests and Shutdown in Kashmir

As a response to the attack, locals in Kashmir observed a shutdown. Several political parties, including the National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), People’s Conference, and Apni Party, called for public protests.

Top Leaders Take Action

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has already visited Baisaran Valley, where the attack took place. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning. He came back to lead the nation’s response to this tragedy.
