Neeraj Chopra Unable To Attend Ostrava Golden Spike 2024 Due To Injury

Javelin thrower champion and gold medalist Neeraj Chopra is set to miss out on the Ostrava Golden Spike 2024 athletics meet due to his injury.

While training, Chopra sustained an adductor muscle injury a couple of weeks ago, as a result of which he has withdrawn from the athletics meet.

Meanwhile, the competition organizers have replaced Neeraj Chopra with Germany’s Julian Weber.

This is the second time Neeraj has had to withdraw from the Ostrava Golden Spike. Last year, he was listed, however, he couldn’t participate due to a muscle injury.

Neeraj Chopra’s anticipated participation in the Ostrava meet would have marked his third competitive appearance of the season.

But the Indian javelin thrower will attend the 63rd edition of the annual athletics competition, which is set to take place this Thursday.

Ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024, Chopra commenced his season at the Doha Diamond League on May 11, securing second place with an 88.36m throw.

Subsequently, he triumphed at the Federation Cup athletics meet in Bhubaneswar, clinching the gold medal in his first competitive outing in India since 2021 with an impressive throw of 82.27m, surpassing Manu DP at the Kalinga Stadium. Chopra is now slated to compete at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, on June 18.
