Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL Future in Doubt? BCB CEO’s Statement Sparks Confusion

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) acquisition of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s services for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was in doubt following a statement by Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury that Mustafizur was to travel to UAE with the Bangladesh, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo.

Delhi Capitals named Mustafizur in place of Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, who will miss the rest of IPL 2025. Bangladesh will tour the United Arab Emirates later this month for a two-match T20 International series against UAE.

“Mustafizur is supposed to go with the team to the UAE according to the schedule. We have not received any communication from IPL officials. I have also not received any such official communication from Mustafizur either,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

IPL Schedule Clash with Bangladesh’s International Series

After two T20Is in the UAE on May 17 and 19, Bangladesh will have five games in Pakistan on May 25, 27, and 30, and June 1 and 3. The IPL would be conflicting with those two series; DC has its last three league games on May 18, 21, and 24 and the playoffs afterwards if it qualifies.

Mustafizur, an IPL debutant in 2016, had earlier played for the Delhi Capitals in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In 2022, he took eight wickets in eight games at an economy of 7.62, while in the next season, he appeared in two games for Delhi Capitals.

Mustafizur Rahman’s Impressive T20I and IPL Career Stats

In his career in the IPL, the 29-year-old has featured in 38 games, taking 38 wickets at a rate of 7.84. He has represented various franchises in the competition, establishing a brand of bowling well across all stages of an innings.

With 132 wickets in 106 T20Is, Mustafizur has become one of the best left-arm pacers in white-ball cricket. In all T20 tournaments in the domestic league and around the world, he took 351 wickets in 281 games.
